Based in the southern region of Malta, Haz-Zebbug, one of the oldest towns in the island, was bestowed the title Citta Rohan by Emmanuel De Rohan-Polduc, Grandmaster of the Order of St. John, on the 21st of June 1777. The town’s population has grown to 11,903 as of March 2014. Built in 1890, the main parish church is dedicated to Philip of Agira. The parish feast is celebrated on the second Sunday of June even though the liturgical feast is celebrated on 12th May. Zebbug is the neighbor town of Attard, Balzan, Rabat, Mdina, Mtarfa, Siggiewi, Dingli and Qormi. It was constituted of Hal Mula, Hal Dwin and Hal Muxi. Public health centres include Willingness Clinic, St. James Highway Clinic, Healthway Medical Centre, Tal-Grazzja Pharmacy, De Rohan Pharmacy, Brown’s Pharmacy, Santa Marija Pharmacy, Hal Mula Pharmacy, Plaza Pharmacy.

Notable figures hailing from Haz-Zebbug include:

  • Dun Karm Psaila, a Maltese national poet, author and priest, as well as the composer of the Maltese National Anthem (L-Innu Malti). He also held the position of an assistant librarian at the National Library of Malta in Republic Square, Valletta for fifteen years until his retirement.
  • Mikiel Anton Vassalli, widely known as the father of Maltese language. He compiled a plethora of books related the Maltese syntax, as well as Maltese-Italian lexicons.
  • Dun Mikiel Xerri, Maltese patriot

St. Ignatius’s College Zebbug Primary School

This state school is one of the oldest schools in the island and was in fact in operation even during the first and second world wars. Population reached 570 by the scholastic year 2009-2010, the Zebbug campus is the largest among the St. Ignatius’ College.

Uniforms can be bought from Yorkie Uniforms in San Gwann. Alternatively, they can be obtained from their website. Delivery for orders over €75 is complimentary.

Trolleys bags are not allowed as the wheels add extra weight to the bag which together with the handle might be detrimental for your child’s spine.

St. Dorothy’s Junior School Zebbug

This church school was founded in 1911 upon the arrival of the St. Dorothy sisters, an Italian congregation, in Malta. Amenities include a swimming pool, sports grounds, a ginormous parking area and lots of greenery! Uniforms can be purchased from InDesign Schoolgear in Attard. Prices vary depending on sizes.

St. Paula Early Education Centre Zebbug

This school is within the limits of the St. Dorothy’s Junior School in Zebbug. Since 2005, it has been offering holistic approach to adapting to all concepts related to the kindergarten curriculum before proceeding to primary education by means of individual or group based activities. Children are grouped by their ages.

During lunchtime, pupils are strongly encouraged to acquire independence and social skills through decision making, pouring, cutting, and serving themselves and others. Children are seated in small groups and will be supported by an adult. Younger children are given assistance upon request.

The food policy states that since there are some children suffering from food allergy, parents are not allowed to bring cakes for their child’s birthday and any other occasion. The school offers a plain birthday cake which must be booked a week before the child’s birthday.

Daily hours are from 8:00am to 1:00pm although extra hours are also offered at an extra fee. The summer club is also available and runs for a total of seven weeks.
