Located in the northern region of Malta, Naxxar is spread over an area of 11 square kilometers and the whole locality consists of the Naxxar centre, Sghajtar area, Santa Marija tax -Xaghra,San Pawl tat-Targa, Birguma, Maghtab,Salina, Bahar ic-Caghaq and a part of Madliena. It is said that Naxxar, got its name from the shipwreck of St. Paul in Malta. It is said that the people of Naxxar were the first to help when the ship hit the rocks. St Paul converted the villagers to Christianity, hence why many connect Naxxar with Nssar which means ‘conversion to Christianity‘. Naxxar is mostly residential, with many alley ways, narrow streets and quaint houses, however around the square it has seen a increase in commercial activity with coffee shops, restaurants and other various shops.
