Attard

Attard lies in the central region of Malta within the western district, forming part of the Three Villages alongside Balzan and Lija. The municipality’s traditional Latin motto is Florigera rosis halo (I perfume the air with my blossoms) due to Attard’s abundance of flower gardens and citrus orchards. The town had garnered a population of 10,650 residents by March 2014.

In 1994, Attard adopted its own local government structure whereby local council elections occur every three years at the St. Nicholas Attard Primary School.

Attard is home to San Anton Palace which houses the President of Malta, as well as Ta’ Qali, The United States Ambassador of Malta and the The Tunisian Embassy of Malta. It is also the neighbor town of Balzan, Lija, Mdina, Mtarfa, Rabat, Mosta, Naxxar, Birkirkara and Zebbug. The President’s Palace in San Anton Palace had accommodated Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during the 2005 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Gerald Strickland resided in Attard at Villa Bologna. Attard is also the hometown of former Archbishop and Dominican friar Paul Cremona and winner of Britain’s Next Top Model (Season 6), Tiffany Pisani.

The feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, also a national public holiday, is celebrated in Attard annually on August 15th. Attard is the twin city of Elancourt in France and Pieve Emanuele in Italy.
