Għajnsielem (Gozo)

Meaning “Peaceful Spring”, Ghajnsielem is located in the southeastern coast on the island of Gozo.   It is the first village you see upon arriving in Gozo.  From the Gozo ferry, you can see a few landmarks such as Fort Chambray and the towering belfry of Ghajnsielem’s Parish Church.   When in Ghajnsielem, you should definitely visit the Mgarr Harbour and fishing village.  When reaching the 18th century Fort Chambray, you can discover views of Gozo’s  cliffs, Xatt l-Ahmar Bay and those of the Northern Comino Channel.  Whilst walking through the streets you will arrive at the old parish church and the mysterious”Pjaza tad-Dehra” (square of apparition) where it is believed that Our Lady has spoken to a local shepherd – Anglu Grech.  It is said that one day, Anglu Grech beheld a vision just across the spring.  Our Lady invited him to raise a statue in her honour on a lip of land close by.  Anglu Grech recounted his apparition to a number of families, who immediately started collecting money to commission a stone stature of Our Lady of Loreto.  Once the statue and niche were built, people would gather around it and recite the Rosary.

Here are some of the kindergartens found in this locality.
