St Thomas More College Tarxien Primary School

With an estimate of around 300 students, the staff members are always on the forefront to address and rectify issues, and satisfy the needs of students. Parents’ involvement is highly appreciated in order to improve the school. A passageway allowing students to get to school safely has been proposed. Moreover, the school collaborates with Dinja Wahda.

The uniform for the scholastic year 2019-2020 remains intact for the time being. As for the scholastic year 2020-2021, the uniform will consist of a new tracksuit, a polo shirt, T-shirt, shorts, cap and the school anorak jacket with the emblem for Kindergarten 1 and Year 1 students. The uniform for the scholastic year 2021-2022 includes the same items and is to be worn by all students. Socks and trainers must be white. In the case of wearing the wrong or incomplete uniform, parents will be prompted to come to the school so children can change into the right uniform.

Uniforms can be bought from Yorkie Uniforms in San Gwann or from their website. Delivery for orders over €75 is free of charge.

The annual meeting is addressed by the head of school where parents are also introduced to the school administration and their child’s assigned teacher. It is fundamental that parents bring along their child to get them accustomed to the new environment.

At the end of the scholastic year, kindergarteners have a party in the classroom. They can dress casually and must bring a plastic cup and an empty lunchbox.

Activities for kindergartens vary on a daily basis including learning shapes through fun-filled tasks, painting with ice cubes, pompoms & fingers, making pretend ice cream with cotton wool & tongs, tasting watermelon, acknowledging diversity, making festivity cards for Mother’s Day and the local feast, sports at the Luxol Grounds, outings to Esplora, multi-sensory writing, acquiring cutting skills, role playing, cooking, sensory play and finger-work. The Kindergarten Open Day for parents and guardians is held every year, same with celebration day. The school has also been visited by notable Maltese figures such as Owen Leuellen and Saviour Pirotta.

Outings include field trips to Mdina, Ghadira Nature Reserve and Ta’ Qali, as well the national aquarium, Kitchen Garden. Children have also decorated figolli amid Easter outings.

As part of a pilot project, students from Year 4 to Year 6 have been provided with a tablet.

Depending on the gravity of the accident, parents are to either collect the child or accompany them to the hospital. An accident report should subsequently be filled in and sent to the school.
