Xgħajra

Located in the south eastern region of Malta, Xghajra, a minuscule seaside village and just a few walks away from Smart City, has garnered a population of approximately 1,700 by March of 2014. Neighboring towns include Zabbar, Kalkara, Marsaskala, Birgu (Vittoriosa) and Bormla (Cospicua). It has no connection whatsoever to Xaghra, a Gozitan village. Xghajra’s patron saint is the Our Lady of Graces whose feast is celebrated on the first Sunday after Victory Day (8th of September). Sights include Triq il-Wiesgha Tower, otherwise known as Torre della Giddida or Mwejgel Tower, which was restored at some point between 2008 and 2009 upon suffering damage during the twentieth century. Public health care centres include the Xghajra District Clinic and St. Elias Pharmacy.

Here is a list of kindergartens in the area:

Xaghjra Kindergarten

St. Margaret College Xghajra Primary School

One of the smallest campuses in the southern region of Malta with an estimated 150 pupils, St. Margaret College Xghajra Primary School has aimed to offer a warm environment to all students from Kinder 1 to Year 6 since its foundation in September 1989. The school collaborates with Dinja Wahda and eTwinning School and has been awarded the bronze award (e-safety label). The daily morning assembly is held at the school foyer.

Uniforms can be bought from Yorkie Uniforms in San Gwann within walking distance of Mater Dei Hospital. Otherwise, they can be obtained from their website. Delivery is free for orders over €75. The school accepts donation of unwanted uniforms as long as they are in good condition.

Activities and events include Zumba activities for students of all levels for the Marigold foundation, Pink October where students can wear a pink shirt and jeans rather than the uniform for only one day to raise awareness about breast cancer, friendship tea party for Kindergarten 2 students, Easter egg hunting for all Kindergarten classes, road safety awareness, blessing of animals usually transpiring in early October wherein students’ pets are blessed by the local parish priest, outings to Kitchen Garden, coming to school in carnival costume during such festivities and Read With Me sessions in the Maltese language for infants and toddlers.

The campus’ website showcases excerpts of students’ creative writing assignments and arts, as well as school policies, the list of required stationary items, calendar of events, development plans, the guide for a healthy eating plan and more. Most classes are equipped with computers and there is also a library. Like all other state schools, this one-floor school is inclusive and learning support assistants are thus available for students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, autism and attention deficit & hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Going through hardships during summer vacation? Still unsure about your career choices or study opportunities? Counselling services and guidance sessions are offered from mid-July to mid-September. Kindly call on (+356) 2180 0672 between 8:30am to 12:30pm to fix up an appointment.
