Situated in the northern region of Malta, Mtarfa is a small town situated close to Rabat. Up until the year 2000 it was considered a suburb of Rabat, but subsequently is became separate as it had its own Local Council. A prominent landmark in Mtarfa, is a clock tower which was built in 1895. During World War I, a naval hospital was built (RNH Mtarfa).
