This harbour town is located in the central region of Malta with neighboring towns such as Ta’ Xbiex, Gzira, San Gwann, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Hamrun and Pieta’. Msida is also located just west from the capital city Valletta on the northeast coast of Malta. The centre of Msida has been reclaimed from the sea after the Second World War. The Parish Church is dedicated to St. Joseph and the feast is celebrated during the month of July. A popular activity during the feast, is the traditional game “il-Ġostra”, whereby participants are asked to walk on a greasy pole erected over water, to reach a prize attached to its end. Nowadays, Msida not only houses a number of residents, but also many students who daily attend to their higher education. On one side of the hill known as Tal-Qroqq one can find the University of Malta and on the other side one can find the Junior College. Msida also hosts Mater Dei General Hospital just a few meters away from the University of Malta. The main road of Msida is a highly traffic area and being a valley, it gets flooded in heavy rain, as water from higher grounds collects in the valley.
