Kalkara is located in the south eastern region of Malta. This town forms a part of the inner harbour area and occupies the area around the Kalkara Creek. Its name comes from the Italian word Calce. You can find two bays in Kalkara, known as Rinella Bay and Kalkara Creek with two penisulas called Bighi and Ricasoli. Kalkara is renowed for its boat building tradition, namely of the typical Maltese boat and barklori. In fact, many locals participate in the traditional boat races named regattas, with boats they built themselves.
