Qala is located on the island of Gozo and is nearby to Hondoq ir-Rummien, which is a coastline with salt pans and caves that are popular with snorkelers and divers. Although Qala is the farthest from Gozo’s capital, it is the closet to the Maltese archipelago, with unobstructed views of the islands of Malta and Comino. The island of Comino can be clearly seen from the courtyard in front of the church known as Il-Madonna tal-Blat (Our Lady of the Rocks). It is said that is was built so that the people of Comino could follow Holy Mass from across the straits, when the rough weather precluded the priest to cross over.
